New Delhi: The death toll due to COVID-19 rose to 5185 and the number of cases climbed to 1,82,143 in the country registering a record single-day spike of 8400, according to the Union health ministry. This is the first time that the number of coronavirus cases in India crossed the 8,000-mark in a single day. India is ninth worst hit due to the pandemic in the world and has been registering record spikes for the last three days. The sharp rise in cases comes as India prepares to re-open in a phased-manner after nearly two months of lockdown.
