Police Inspector’s Salary Increase Withheld After Guilty Verdict in RTI Activist Harassment Case

Mira Bhayander :- In a recent development, Prashant Langi, the former police inspector of Uttan police station, has been found guilty of attempting to falsely implicate RTI activist Krishna Gupta in a fabricated case. As a consequence of his actions, Langi has been handed a one-year salary increment withholding by Commissioner of Police Pandey. The incident sheds light on alleged attempts to undermine those working against criminality and corruption within the city.

Krishna Gupta, a prominent Right to Information (RTI) activist in the Mira-Bhayander Vasai Virar region, lodged a formal complaint against Langi in 2021. Gupta’s complaint accused Langi of harassment and abusive behavior during his time as a police inspector. The incident reportedly took place at the Uttan police station, where Langi, accompanied by friends, subjected Gupta to verbal abuse and mistreatment.

The complaint made its way to Deputy Commissioner of Police Amit Kale, who brought it to the attention of the then Commissioner of Police, Sadanand Date. However, no immediate action was taken against Langi, prompting Gupta to escalate the matter to the State Police Complaints Authority. In a subsequent turn of events, Deputy Commissioner Suhas Bawche, in charge of Virar Circle 3, conducted an inquiry into the case.

After thorough investigation and listening to testimonies from both Langi and the complainants, Deputy Commissioner Bawche presented his findings to the Police Commissioner. The conclusion drawn was that Langi had indeed engaged in a conspiracy to implicate Gupta falsely, thereby abusing his position as a police inspector.

The verdict, handed down by Commissioner Pandey, entails a one-year withholding of salary increment for Langi. This disciplinary action is intended to serve as a deterrent against abuse of power and misconduct within the police force. The case highlights the importance of upholding integrity and fairness in law enforcement and sending a clear message that attempts to misuse authority will not go unpunished.

As this case comes to a close, it underlines the significance of the public’s trust in law enforcement officials and the need for transparency and accountability. Gupta’s courage to stand against injustice serves as a reminder that individuals working tirelessly to combat criminality and corruption must be safeguarded against any form of retribution.
