Under the “National Clean Air Program,” MBMC has taken a commendable step to control pollution by introducing “E-Buses.” These electric buses have made their debut on October 30, 2023, and are set to serve the city’s residents. A total of 57 E-Buses have been added to MBMC’s existing fleet, marking a significant stride towards reducing pollution in the region.

Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation, which currently operates 74 diesel buses, is set to purchase 57 E-Buses under the “National Clean Air Program.” With a grant of 81.20 crore rupees, MBMC is committed to implementing this eco-friendly initiative until 2025-26. Out of the total grant, 28.15 crore rupees will be allocated for the procurement of E-Buses.

These 57 E-Buses include 32 medium-sized non-air-conditioned buses, 15 standard non-air-conditioned buses, and 10 standard air-conditioned buses. As of now, 5 buses have already been put into service, with the remaining 4 to commence their routes shortly. The bus routes will cover key areas like Bhayandar (East), Mira Road (East), K.D.M.C., and J.P. North City.

Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation’s public transport service already serves approximately 90,000 passengers daily. With the introduction of the E-Buses, this number is expected to increase significantly, further improving the city’s public transportation network.

The “National Clean Air Program” is a commendable initiative by MBMC to reduce air pollution and provide a cleaner and healthier environment for its citizens. The introduction of electric buses is a significant step towards achieving this goal and ensuring a greener, more sustainable future for Mira Bhayandar.
