Special Cleanliness Campaign in Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation

Mira Bhayandar :- Under the Swachh Bharat Mission 2023, a special cleanliness campaign day was observed on October 21, 2023, in Mira Bhayandar Municipal Corporation. In the presence of the Commissioner and Administrator, Mr. Sanjay Shripatrao Katkar, IAS, two groups undertook a significant clean-up initiative. The first group, under the guidance of Mr. Aniket Manorkar, Additional Commissioner, cleaned the Golden Nest Circle to Haidari Chowk, while the second group, led by Mr. Sambhaji Panpatte, Additional Commissioner, focused on Mira Road Railway Station to Puja Nagar.

The Special Cleanliness Campaign saw the active participation of various officials and employees from different departments. Over 350 to 400 additional employees joined hands, including 100 from the Solid Waste Management Department, 50 from the Garden Department, and 40 from the Fire Department, among others. Ten teams from various departments worked tirelessly to execute this cleanliness drive.

The campaign encompassed a wide range of activities, including direct cleaning by department heads, removal of stickers, enforcement against open defecation, cleaning of memorials and statues, and repair of damaged railings along the roads. In addition, 9.5 tons of soil and rubble were cleared, along with the removal of rabbits in the area. The campaign also targeted open plots, water bodies, and garden beautification, transforming the city’s appearance.

Notably, the Commissioner & Administrator, and other officials interacted with students from N.H. School, discussing the importance of cleanliness, waste segregation, and maintaining cleanliness in homes and surroundings. This initiative received a positive response from the citizens, and 128 individuals and establishments were fined a total of ₹1,32,000 for littering and spreading uncleanliness.

Since the campaign’s launch, 259 kilograms of plastic waste have been collected, leading to a fine collection of ₹5,63,000. Furthermore, three statues and a selfie point were cleaned in the respective areas.

The Special Cleanliness Campaign is set to continue until October 27, 2023, with an open invitation for citizens to actively participate and contribute to the city’s cleanliness. Municipal Commissioner and Administrator, Mr. Sanjay Shripatrao Katkar, urged citizens to join in the efforts for a cleaner and more beautiful city.
