Tribal Development Initiative Takes Center Stage in Palghar District

Palghar :- Under the chairmanship of the Departmental Commissioner of the Konkan Division, a crucial meeting was held today, on the 20th of October, 2023, at 4:00 PM at the District Collector’s Office in Palghar. This meeting focused on addressing various issues faced by tribal communities and formulating comprehensive plans for their upliftment, including programs for sustainable development, nutrition enhancement, and healthcare services, with a special emphasis on reducing infant and child mortality rates.

The Departmental Commissioner conveyed the need for special efforts to elevate the quality of life for tribal communities. The meeting was attended by the District Collector, Govind Bodke, and the Chief Executive Officer, Bhanudas Palve. It was conducted through a video conference.

Several key officials from various departments, including the Tribal Development Department in Dahanu and Jawhar, the Additional Chief Executive Officer of the Palghar District Council, the District Surgeon, and the District Program Officer for Women and Child Development, discussed relevant topics and received guidance from the Departmental Commissioners.

In a directive provided during the meeting, the officials were instructed to prepare a comprehensive seven-point plan to uplift the tribal communities and to address malnutrition issues. Additionally, it was announced that a detailed presentation regarding the initiatives to uplift tribal communities will be held in Dahanu on the 8th of November.

To promote local employment opportunities and decrease the number of malnourished children, District Collector Govind Bodke suggested implementing various schemes. Currently, Severe Acute Malnutrition (SAM) affects 155 children in Palghar District, with a higher incidence in Dahanu, Jawhar, Mokhada, Wada, and Vikramgad. The officials were directed to meet twice a month in these areas to monitor and address the issue.

Furthermore, it was highlighted that the number of children affected by Moderate Acute Malnutrition (MAM) has risen substantially in all talukas and deserves special attention. A focus on institutional deliveries and the provision of nutritious meals in Anganwadis was suggested by the District Health Officer and District Surgeon.

This meeting has laid the groundwork for a comprehensive strategy to uplift the tribal communities and enhance their quality of life. The Departmental Commissioner and various officials are dedicated to executing these plans and addressing the critical issues faced by the tribal population in Palghar District.
