Heavy Rains Prompt Declaration of Holiday for Schools in Thane District

Date: July 27, 2023

Thane District, Maharashtra: Due to the ongoing heavy rainfall and the possibility of further downpours as predicted by the Meteorological Department, the Department of Education (Primary), Zilla Parishad, Thane, has taken a crucial decision to ensure the safety of school students. In light of this, all primary, secondary, and higher secondary schools of all systems in the district will remain closed on July 28, 2023.

The declaration of the holiday was announced by Ms. Lalita Dahitule, the Education Officer (Secondary) of Zilla Parishad, Thane. This decision comes after careful consideration of the potential inconvenience and safety risks that students from 1st to 12th standard may face while commuting to school during heavy rains.

The Hon’ble Commissioner (Education), M.R., Pune, had sent a letter on July 19, 2023, highlighting the need to take appropriate measures considering the heavy rainfall situation in the district. Subsequently, the Collector of Thane issued important instructions on July 27, 2023, which further reinforced the urgency of ensuring the safety of school students during adverse weather conditions.

Ms. Lalita Dahitule stated, “The well-being and safety of our students are of utmost importance. With the forecast of heavy rainfall, it is prudent to declare a holiday for all schools in the district on July 28, 2023, to avoid any potential risks.”

The Education Officer (Primary) of Zilla Parishad, Dr. Bhausaheb Korekar, and the Chief Executive Officer of Zilla Parishad, Thane, have also been notified about the decision.

Parents and guardians are advised to take note of the holiday declaration and ensure that their children stay safe at home during this period of heavy rainfall. The Department of Education (Primary) urges all schools to inform students and parents immediately about the holiday through appropriate communication channels.

The authorities in Thane are closely monitoring the weather situation and will provide further updates as necessary. Residents are encouraged to stay informed about the weather conditions and adhere to safety guidelines issued by the authorities.
