Severe Heavy Rain Warning Prompts Closure of Educational Institutions in Palghar District

Palghar District, Maharashtra: In response to the severe heavy rain warning issued by the Regional Meteorological Department Mumbai, the District Disaster Management Authority in Palghar has taken precautionary measures to ensure the safety of residents. As a result, all educational institutions across the district have been ordered to remain closed on July 28, 2023.

The decision to declare a holiday for schools, colleges, and training centers was announced by Mr. Govind Bodke, the Collector of Palghar and Chairman of the District Disaster Management Authority. The order is in accordance with the Disaster Management Act of 2005 and the Government Circular No. of School Education and Sports Department, Miscellaneous-2019/P.No. 199/SD-2, dated August 2, 2019.

The warning of heavy rainfall specifically affects the talukas of Vasai, Palghar, Dahanu, and Talasari in Palghar district. According to the forecast provided by the Regional Meteorological Department Mumbai, the district is expected to experience very heavy rainfall on July 28, 2023.

Mr. Govind Bodke emphasized that the safety of students, teachers, and staff is of paramount importance, and hence, the decision to declare a holiday for all educational institutions in the district has been taken to avoid any potential risks and inconveniences that may arise due to the adverse weather conditions.

The Collector’s order applies to all types of educational institutions, including Anganwadis, Government and Private Schools, Zilla Parishad Schools, Municipality and Municipal schools, aided and unaided schools, ashram schools, residential ashram schools, and colleges in Palghar District.

“I urge all educational institutions to comply with the order and ensure that students are not exposed to any potential hazards caused by the heavy rainfall. Parents and guardians are also advised to take necessary precautions and keep their children safe at home,” stated Mr. Govind Bodke.

Additionally, the Collector has directed concerned authorities, including the Commissioner of Police, Mira-Bhainder, Vasai-Virar Police Commissionerate, Chief Executive Officer of G.P. Palghar, Superintendent of Police Palghar, and others, to take appropriate actions to ensure the safety and well-being of residents during this weather event.

Furthermore, residents are advised to stay informed about weather updates and follow safety guidelines issued by the authorities. Local authorities are closely monitoring the situation and are ready to provide assistance if needed.
