Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation Promotes Student Participation in District-Level School Sports Competitions

Navi Mumbai :- The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation (NMMC) is taking significant steps to encourage student participation in district-level school sports competitions, in accordance with the sports curriculum of the Maharashtra government. NMMC has achieved recognition for hosting these competitions at the district level, enabling talented athletes in Navi Mumbai to showcase their skills at the regional stage.

Under the guidance of Mr. Rajesh Narvekar, Municipal Commissioner, the sports events began at the Yashwantrao Chavan Sports Complex in Nerul, featuring an international-grade football field. Subsequently, competitions in various sports, including badminton, athletics, hockey, table tennis, yoga, and netball, were organized by schools such as North Point School, Koparkhairane, Father Agnel School, Vashi, and Vidya Bhavan School, Nerul, among others.

These events saw enthusiastic participation from over 35,000 students representing 249 schools across Navi Mumbai. The competition was fierce, and every event witnessed outstanding performances from young athletes. This initiative, supported by the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation, ensures that a large number of students can experience the thrill of competitive sports.

In addition to these district-level competitions, the Department of Sports and Cultural Affairs is actively planning for upcoming events. The next series of sports competitions will include age categories of 14, 17, and 19 years, and is expected to see even more participation from schools. This initiative aims to create a conducive environment for nurturing athletic talents in Navi Mumbai.

This recent sports extravaganza demonstrated the commitment of various schools, organizations, and venues to promote sports at the district level. The cooperation of the Airoli Sports Association, Nerul Gymkhana, Christ Academy Koparkhairane, and others, in providing facilities for different sports, has allowed athletes to compete in top-notch conditions.
