New Water Supply System in Navi Mumbai to Address Water Scarcity

Navi Mumbai :- In a significant move to address the growing water scarcity issue in Navi Mumbai, the Municipal Corporation has introduced a well-planned water supply system. This initiative aims to provide residents with a consistent and reliable water supply. The new system has been carefully designed to distribute water for 6 to 7 hours every day, ensuring that residents receive water in the morning and evening, without any alterations.

Prior to this innovative solution, there was a considerable challenge with water pressure, especially during peak hours when everyone needed water simultaneously. In response to this problem, the Water Supply Department has established a timetable for filling the water tanks in every department. Residents can now expect consistent water supply in the mornings and evenings, with no changes to their existing schedules.

Notably, this system has been developed to ensure that all sectors in Navi Mumbai receive water simultaneously from various sources, addressing issues related to water pressure and distribution. This new plan has already been set in motion, and the entire water supply network in Navi Mumbai is now synchronized to ensure everyone receives water at the same time.

A remarkable water project that symbolizes the city’s water abundance is the Morbe Dam project, which was filled to capacity on September 24th, 2023. As of October 19th, the water level in Morbe Dam stood at 184.38 million cubic meters, which is a remarkable 96% of its total capacity.

Morbe Dam now supplies 450 million liters of water daily, with the water undergoing purification at the Bhokarapada Water Purification Plant. This plant has a capacity of 450 million liters of water purification, ensuring an adequate supply for the city.

Currently, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation is distributing 450 million liters of water daily from Morbe Dam and 80 million liters from the M.I.D.C. The distribution plan is based on ensuring that residents receive at least 60 to 65 million liters directly. Therefore, additional water supply is being sourced from Shil, Airoli, and Ghansoli to address areas where there are concerns about water supply shortages.

In some areas served by the M.I.D.C., residents are now receiving around 60 to 65 million liters of water daily, making it possible to use 33 points of connection to distribute the excess water. However, some residents in these areas have raised concerns about the quality of the water.

Furthermore, the M.I.D.C. is undertaking additional water distribution in areas like Belapur, Nerul, Vashi, Turbhe, Koparkhairane, Ghansoli, Airoli, and Digha. This initiative involves creating new water distribution points, thereby resolving complaints from residents about inadequate water supply.

This comprehensive plan addresses the uneven water supply, which was previously caused by residents filling their water tanks at different times. With this new system in place, residents can now rely on consistent water supply, eliminating the need for adjusting their schedules to accommodate water distribution.

The Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation has implemented this new plan to offer residents a more reliable and structured water supply. This initiative is driven by the increasing population of Navi Mumbai, which is expected to reach its peak in 2055. To support this growth, a specialized committee has been formed to explore alternative water sources and ensure that water supply remains sufficient for the city’s growing needs.

In conclusion, the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s new water supply system is a step towards ensuring that residents receive consistent, quality water supply, even as the city continues to grow. This initiative reflects the city’s commitment to addressing water scarcity and providing for its residents’ needs.
